About Cliff Martin

Born into music, Cliff Martin was raised in Paris, Kentucky, where his father taught music at Paris High School and later opened the legendary Club Hurricane in Lexington. Growing up as a “fly on the wall,” Cliff was exposed to icons like Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Coleman Hawkins, and Rashaan Roland Kirk. These early moments sparked a lifelong passion for jazz that continues to define his career.

Cliff's first steps on stage were with local funk groups such as A Touch of Funk, ESP Band, and Razz Ma Dazz. Though funk remains close to his heart, his deep love for smooth jazz took center stage. Influenced by greats like Grover Washington Jr., David Sanborn, Gerald Albright, and Spyro Gyra, Cliff has spent over 50 years mastering his sound.

He plays both tenor and alto saxophones as well as wind synthesizers, bringing a rich, layered energy to each performance. His ability to blend classic standards with contemporary jazz makes him a favorite among a wide range of audiences.

Cliff often performs solo, making his shows accessible to venues of all sizes, but also collaborates with singers and fellow musicians for duets or full band experiences. His background includes concert band work at Morehead State University and jazz combos at the University of Louisville. As a lifelong student of music, Cliff embraces every aspect of the art form.

Cliff’s performances at Equus Run Vineyard, Talon Winery, and cigar lounges in Paris, KY, remain fan favorites.

Outside Kentucky, Cliff has played in cities like Buffalo, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, and Chicago — and he’s always ready to return. He currently plays primarily in Frankfort, KY, and is open to traveling up to 350 miles in any direction for events.

Cliff tailors every show to fit the room — from intimate dinners to weddings, birthday parties, and private galas. His music spans generations, with a sound designed to relax, uplift, and entertain. Using woodwinds, wind synths, and even trumpet-style tones, Cliff’s one-man show delivers a full-band experience.
